La Vino Dolce

Welcome to La Vino Dolce

Welcome to La Vino Dolce, a website dedicated to becoming the internet’s #1 resource for dessert wine and related information.

If you’re like many people, myself included, your first exposure to wine was probably by way of something sweet, be it the ubiquitous and ever-popular “White” Zinfandel, or something even more candy-flavored like Boone’s Farm or a Bartles & Jaymes Wine Cooler. Most people inevitably graduate to more sophisticated wines and many even develop a serious disdain for “sweet wines.” So strong is the conviction of these dry wine converts that the very phrase “sweet wine” carries with it an often negative connotation. Such narrow-minded thinking is unfortunate as it leads people to deprive themselves of one of life’s greatest joys.

This website was specifically created to combat the prevailing myth that sweet wines are for beginners. The simple fact is that some of the most long-lived, decadent, enjoyable, and complex wines are sweet. The first time you try Sauternes or a well-aged Vintage Port, your eyes will be opened to a level of complexity you previously thought unachievable by mere fermented grape juice. It is these types of wine that will serve as the focus of this site. That’s not to say I won’t dabble in topics of general interest to our target audience, but the wines discussed will always have at least some residual sugar.

My posts will begin by discussing broad categories of sweet wine in order to educate my readers and to serve as a repository of general knowledge. I will likely create a substantial number of tasting notes over time. I may even post the occasional video blog to keep things interesting. The rate at which I update the site will primarily be determined by the rate at which the readers demand more content. Ultimately, I would love to update the site once a day, but I am going to run out of pre-planned content very quickly if I start out that way. Accordingly, I will likely start with one or two new articles per week and see how thing go from there.

If you’re reading this, my sincere thanks. I am doing this for you. If you have comments, suggestions, or feedback, please don’t be shy. Thanks again for your support.
